24 February 2008 - The Oscars!

So how the hell do you compete with the Oscars? Well, I think you make a "Warm Roasted Chicken and Bread Salad! OMG (Oscar Meal Greatness), it was SO good! I think it is my new favorite chicken recipe, and that says a lot. The chicken breasts are roasted over the large bread cubes and then tossed with baby arugula, roasted pine nuts, grape tomatoes with a reduction of chicken broth and red wine vinegar with garlic and thyme. Top with shaved Parmesan regiano and there you have it. Perfect pre-Oscar dinner, and now the ceremony has begun, so that's all folks! I'm so nervous for Julie Christie......

17 February 2008

Well, this is the last meal before Jim returns, so you got a bonus post this weekend! I have been a cleaning fool this weekend and decided to tackle the home office room. As many on you may know, this front room in our house has become clutter central. We have been meaning to furnish it for an office, but we just put it off. I bought shelving units for the closet, got all of the boxes sorted and out of the floor and even hooked up our new HP printer that we bought last year! It is even working now, so we can print at home again. I began this project yesterday and started back first thing this morning – right after a venti latte from Starbucks and the NY Times! I just paused around 6:30 when the storms started moving into the area. When I slowed down, I realized I had only had some yogurt and granola to eat all day long. So, tonight's Sunday Supper was special: Breakfast for Dinner night! I grilled a bone-in pork chop, scrambled some eggs and invented one small dish: brulée of caved aged gouda cheese grits! Yummy, if I say so myself! Jim's flight is delayed, so I had a nice breakfast around 8 p.m.

The menu:

"Breakfast for Supper"

- Organic local bone-in pork chop

- Brulée of cave-aged gouda cheese grits

- Scrambled eggs

- Buttermilk bisquits

16 February 2008

Well, I am one night early, but Jim is in Fargo at a Bonspiel with Tonya and Bob. So I am home alone, and that can be trouble. Actually kind of nice to do whatever you want to do. I get to eat all the red meat that I want and watch country music videos all night long. Right now, I just caught the last 30 minutes of "Two of a Kind" with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta! Steel Magnolias comes on at 10, so maybe I will watch it and cry like a girl...

For Saturday Sunday Supper I made a Bacon cheeseburger and crinkle fries. Yummy!

Have to get back to the dramatic climax of Two of A Kind. Olivia is doing a prison scene!!!!!

The menu:

- Bacon cheeseburger on French Roll - organic local 100% ground chuck

- Organic Crinkle Fries with Fleur de Sol

By the way, here's Olivia's video of the hit song from the Two of A Kind soundtrack for your listening pleasure:

You know you're a food geek when you take video of your meatballs while they fry! Happy Grammys everyone!

Super Bowl Sunday – 03 February 2008

Today is Super Bowl Sunday, so Jim is all a twitter. I, on the other hand, see it as an opportunity to prepare a "themed" Sunday Supper. Don't get me wrong, I see nothing wrong with worshiping Tom Brady! I guess it is the one football game that appeals to me. Maybe it is the halftime show. Maybe it is the commercials. Maybe, this year, it is the debut of Paula Abdul's comeback song during the pre-game festivities. Maybe it is all of this and more, but most importantly, it's the WINGS! The Super Bowl provides the perfect excuse to eat bar food, one of my favorites. Enjoy the game, and may your Super Bowl party be filled with good food, frosty beverages and great friends!

The Menu:

- Hooters Secret Recipe Hot Wings

- Crisp Organic Celery, Carrots and Broccoli

- Junior League Twice Baked Potatoes

- Giant Nacho Pizzas With Organic Toppings and Scratch Salsa

- Cajun Infused Boiled Organic Peanuts
