30 March 2008 - Live from LA

Jim and I are in Los Angeles for the weekend. We came to visit our friends Mick and Gill Hodgson. Gill did a one woman show, "See You on the Ice," upstairs at St. Nick's Pub last night. She was great! While here, we discovered an amazing Mexican food stand at the LA Farmers Market, Loteria! Of course, I became obsessed with it. Great, authentic Mexican food and amazing place to "people-watch." Both times we ate there, the line was always long. Can't wait to return to LA and have more amazing dishes from Loteria! Until then, here is what we ate last night before Gill's show:

- Bill: Chicken Molé Poblano Tostada and Nachos

- Jim: Chicken Molé Poblano Tacos and Minted Rice

Adios!

23 March 2008 - Easter

Today is Easter Sunday. Jim and I are still recovering from a fun night out on Friday with Matt and Millie. We went into Atlanta to see Robinella at Eddie's Attic. She is an amazing singer songwriter that is a cross between Billie Holiday and Dolly Parton. Southern and amazing from start to finish! We had a blast but went out afterwards and did not get home until around 3 a.m. So, Easter has been a slow day, but that's not a bad thing I suppose. Easter weekend has always been a little odd for me, especially as a child. I don't know what it is, but it centers around guilt I guess. After all, Jesus died for our sins, and I remember all of the movies that came on about the crucifixion and resurrection. Upon retrospect, I really don't think it was appropriate subject matter for small children. Oh well, as an adult, I'm just left with Jesus and Gravity...

So, I am cooking an Easter Sunday Supper tonight. Here's a photo of me and my siblings one Easter long ago. Sad tohttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif realize there are only three of us left and no resurrections to celebrate. But alas, the skin on my roasted chicken was extremely crispy, and that's all I need right now!

The menu:

- Extra Crispy Roasted Organic Chicken

- Roasted Fingerling Potatoes With Garlic and Fresh Rosemary

- Baby Carrots and Fresh Sweet Peas

- Salt and Pepper Cream Biscuits

- Homemade Key Lime Pie

Happy Easter Everyone!

16 March 2008 - Palm Sunday

Well, it has been quite the weekend! Yesterday, we spent most of the day dodging tornados! We went down to the basement on three different equations as the tornado sirens blared. Luckily, they barely missed Canton but struck all around. Last night, we went to visit our dear friends Steve and Amado in Blue Ridge, Georgia. They have a beautiful cabin in the mountains, and we love spending time with them. We saw some great photos and heard some great stories from their recent trip to the Big Island. We did not get home until around 3:30 am, so today has been about recovery. We did go down to see Matt as the craft show in Marietta. As always, his work was brilliant, and we enjoyed seeing his lovely bride, Millie. So tonight, I decided to do a little Thai cooking tonight and and made some Thai chicken soup. It was good, but it got a little tepid during the food styling and photo shoot! Jim hates that but was a good sport. Hope everyone had a good Palm Sunday!

The Menu:

- Tom Ka Gai - Tha Chicken Soup

- Organic Basmati Rice

- Pan Fried Potstickers

I am a bit spent after last night but decided to make a simple dish for dinner: organic cauliflower gratin. It was divine. Great recipe from Cook's Illustrated. We ate between two episodes of "In Treatment." Crazy Sunday night...

Have a great week everyone!

09 March 2008

What a treat. Tonight, we had Britt and Lee Ann up for dinner. Yes, it is only Saturday night, but the company was delicious. Not sure what's for supper tomorrow, but tonight I cooked a wacked out version of Shrimp and Grits with a side of creamed cabbage. Oh yes, we also had Salt and Pepper Buttermilk Bisquits: they owned. Lee Ann and Britt brought a great Zin and four divine cupcakes! Life is good right now...

The Menu:

- Butterbean Pate and Creamcheese Almondine

- Georgia White Shrimp and Gruyere Cream Grits

- Slightly Creamed Organic Cabbage

- Salt and Pepper OMG! Buttermilk Biscuits

- Assorted Cupcakes from Britt and Lee Anne

Florals were provided from Jim's garden, a simple arrangement of the season's first daffodils!

Sunday's on!
