26 July 2009 - Farmers Market Feast

What an amazing weekend. Yesterday, I got up very early and went to the Farmers Market on the Historic Downtown Canton Loop. I got there at 8:05 AM! Now those of you who know me, what is wrong with this picture? Well, last week, I got there around 10 AM and the farm fresh eggs were sold out! So, I wanted first pick of the merchandise, and I totally SCORED! My bounty of local products included okra, silver queen corn, flat bottom squash, purple hull peas, yellow squash, cantaloupe, watermelon, peaches, sunflowers, eggs and Georgia peaches. How awesome to experience the taste of a place - as my dear friend Mary Ann Hardman would say. So for tonight's Sunday Supper, I transformed my bounty into a local summer vegetable feast. The meat was not missed, and the cicada chorus sang their loving approval. We must cook with LOVE, and as someone once said, "the summer song writes itself!"

Peace out,

Bill
