02 January 2011 – Soulful New Year

Happy New Year, and good riddance to 2010! I am excited about the new year since last year was filled with the good, bad and the ugly. The good parts were really great, but the bad parts were really ugly. So, here's to new beginnings. We rang in the new year with our dear friends, Steve and Amado, at their cabin in Blue Ridge, Georgia. We had a great meal and laughed a lot. They even orchestrated a "balloon drop" at midnight! We stayed over and took our time getting home on New Years day. Today, we purged the house of Christmas decorations and bid adieu to the blue spruce. It made quite a mess, but we enjoyed it for the holidays. I saved my traditional New Years dishes for tonight's Sunday Supper. Tomorrow, we're off to join the YMCA and get back in shape, so I began the transition by lightening up tonight's supper. I made oven fried chicken and the typical Southern New Years side dishes: black eyed peas and collard greens. According my grandmother, the peas are for good luck and the collards are for good fortune since they are the color of money. However, I am putting a new spin on the collards. I made dirty rice stuffed collard greens! They are similar to stuffed cabbage but with collards.

It's back to a full work week tomorrow, and I will be happy to return to a somewhat normal schedule. Luckily, the beginning of the year is looking very busy for Grant Design Collaborative! Here's to a better year for all! May 2011 bring you lots of love, laughter, joy, health and some great Sunday Suppers!

Bon Appetit Ya'll!
